Sani Fulmali's Remarkable Achievement

Sani Fulmali recently clinched a gold medal at the Asian Youth Wrestling Championship, attributing his success to his family's wrestling heritage. His grandfather and father played pivotal roles in training him and his siblings. Additionally, he expressed gratitude towards his coach, who supported him financially for several years, allowing him to focus on his wrestling journey. Fulmali excelled in beach wrestling, defeating Iran's Amirali Domirkolaei 2-0 in the final of the 60 kg category at the 2025 championship held in Bahrain. This victory is a significant achievement for Indian wrestling, highlighting the nation's advancing capabilities in the sport.

Wrestling Legacy

Fulmali shared, "My grandfather was a wrestler in our village. He inspired my father to take up wrestling, and my father then trained my brothers and me. My coach took me under his wing and financed my training for four to five years."

A Father's Dedication and Olympic Aspirations

Subhash Fulmali, Sani's father, recounted the sacrifices made to support his son's wrestling ambitions, including reducing family meals to afford training costs. He expressed gratitude to Sandeep Appa Bhondwe, who adopted Sani and covered his expenses. "I saved every penny I earned for his wrestling. We often had to eat less to ensure Sani could train. A year later, Sandeep Appa Bhondwe was so impressed with his progress that he decided to adopt him and take on all his expenses. I dream of seeing him compete in the Olympics for India and winning a medal for our country," he stated.

Family's Pride and Call for Assistance

Suraj Fulmali, Sani's brother, expressed the family's joy over Sani's medal achievement. He highlighted their difficult living conditions in a slum and their parents' struggle to make a living by selling jewelry on the streets. "After he won the medal, he called our parents. We were overjoyed... We live in a slum... We lack support... My parents sell jewelry on the street... The government should provide as much assistance as possible to him," Suraj remarked.
